Dutch Bar Association registration
The lawyers of MAAK Advocaten N.V. are members of the Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten (Dutch Bar Association, NOvA). Under the Dutch Advocates Act (Advocatenwet) and the rules of the Dutch Bar, each Dutch advocate is required to register the areas of law in which they practise in the Dutch Bar's central practice areas register (rechtsgebiedenregister), and to obtain continuing professional education credits (PO-punten) each year.

Professional indemnity insurance
MAAK Advocaten N.V. maintains professional indemnity insurance (beroepsaansprakelijkheidsverzekering) at the level required by the Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten for Dutch law firms. The insurance covers legal liability arising from the professional services rendered by the firm and its lawyers, and its geographical scope corresponds to the requirements set by the Dutch Bar Association.
Details of the insurer, policy number, coverage amount and geographical scope are available from the firm on request. A written statement of insurance can be provided to clients, counsel or regulators where required for specific matters.
Complaints procedure
MAAK Advocaten N.V. operates an internal complaints procedure (klachtenregeling) in accordance with the rules of the Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten. Clients who are not satisfied with the firm's services, the handling of their file or the invoicing of fees can submit a written complaint to the firm. Complaints are handled by the firm's designated Complaints Officer (klachtenfunctionaris), who will acknowledge the complaint, consult with the lawyer concerned, and respond in writing within four weeks of receipt. If that period cannot be met, the Complaints Officer will inform the client of the delay and set a new deadline.
The handling of a complaint is confidential, at no charge to the client, and does not affect the client's right to terminate the engagement or seek other remedies. If a complaint cannot be resolved through the internal procedure, the matter can be submitted to the competent court of Amsterdam.

Applicable law and jurisdiction
The legal relationship between MAAK Advocaten N.V. and its clients is governed exclusively by Dutch law. All services provided by the firm are rendered under the firm's general terms and conditions (see below), which contain further provisions on liability, governing law and dispute resolution. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with the engagement between the firm and a client is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent court in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, subject to the provisions of the firm's general terms and conditions and the internal complaints procedure.

MAAK Advocaten N.V. provides all services under its general terms and conditions (algemene voorwaarden), which apply to every engagement unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing. The general terms and conditions are available in Dutch, English and German:

By instructing MAAK Advocaten N.V., the client accepts the applicability of these terms to the engagement.
Privacy and personal data
MAAK Advocaten N.V. processes personal data of clients, counterparties, counsel and website visitors in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and the Dutch Implementation Act.
